What does the future have in store for Music censorship?
It seems as if as the years pass, the government and big corporations have more and more control over what artists can say and cannot say in their music. Of course, this issue touches on the first amendment which states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." I think that the majority of US citizens would agree that music censorship is getting excessive. It is our right to say what is on our mind even it offends certain people. So what will happen in the future. We can only assume that the frequency in which these artists are stifled will become more and more often. It appears as though as time goes on artists are able to say less and less whats on there mind if it offends people, which is not right. Artists should have the ability to express themselves through their art however they feel, similar to painters or sculpters.
While there can be a very convincing argument made for the rise of oppression on artists creativity, another case can be made that music censorship will drop in the future. The majority of music censorship is done on the radio or any public listening streams. With the expansion of new technology and new ways to spread and share music, the number of regular radio listeners has gone down substantially. Because of this, the need for music censorship in songs is going down. This means that the future has the potential to have less censorship than we have today and that means more artistic freedom.
